Standing up for ALDE

ALDE is among the few European parties which welcomes members from outside the EU, a group which sadly has included the UK for the last 6 years. Consequently, ALDE is, to many of its members, much more than a continental political party. Instead, it is an ideological family that stretches across more than 40 nations, built on a foundation of shared values and commitments to freedom, democracy, and the rule of law.

Julie and her Liberal Democrat colleagues have cited ALDE in the UK Parliament as a shining example of what pan-Europeanism could, and should, be. As Vice-President of ALDE, Julie is committed to ensuring that every voice, from every corner of Europe, is heard and respected in our liberal family. Furthermore, she pledges to defend the principles of unity and pan-Europeanism on which ALDE was founded and help colleagues and the wider party steer through the growing tides of populism, nationalism, and isolationism, and come out the other side still united and undaunted by the challenges that await. For Julie, and for so many others, ALDE is more than a party – It is Europe. Or, at least, what Europe could be – and that is worth fighting for.
